A friend of mine texted yesterday, his 2004 Tacoma DCSB was in for an oil change at Toyota and the tech was able to put a screwdriver through the frame..

First G en campaign is long over, Toyota is still busy piling up 2nd Gen frames around here.. Interesting thin g is the Dana 2nd G ens fail beside the cats, inside frames under the passenger seat. First Gens fail between the back of the cab and the front of the rear spring perch, t hat’s why the bent First G en pics are so common.

Sadly this little truck has been an awesome family trooper, lots of adventures under it’s belt.

He’s test driving third Gens this morning, so far the top of the list is a 2018 Tacoma DCSB Off Road..

I gotta wonder if a competent shop couldn’t just rebox the bad sections. cheaper than a car payment.

He’s had a string of 2nd and 3rd gen 4Runners, and a few early trucks, h e knows the game and has boxed frames and made patches in the past. If it was just him bombing around or turning it into a firewood truck I’m sure he would do it again.

But it’s his daily driver, and his family rides with him. Doesn’t help that he’s a volunteer fire chief and first responder dealing with auto accidents all day long..

He just built that DIY bumper tho..

I can’t imagine any competent shop wanting to take on that liability.

Me nei ther. My truck is only two years older. I’ll be rip-shit pissed if I have to junk it in two years, no matter how good it has been to me (and it’s been great to me).

I have to do a crossmember on mine soon.. It’s almost completely rotted through. Probably bc snow and shit sits on top on the plastic fuel tank with nowhere to go. No reason to let it go anytime soon.

I just did all the brake lines and a trans cooler line. Gonna have to do the rockers in  the next couple years.

Ugh, that sucks about the rockers. I did the brake lines a couple months ago, not as bad as a job as I thought it would be.
